Section 7 of the Jordan Trail takes you from the breathtaking city of Petra through the rugged desert landscape to the world-renowned Wadi Rum.

As you traverse this remarkable section, you’ll experience a diverse range of terrains, from the rocky paths of Petra to the vast, windswept desert, as well as dramatic mountain views and unique geological formations.

Along the way, you’ll camp in the wilderness under the stars, with each day offering a fresh challenge and a new wonder.

Itinerary

Petra to Gaa’ Mriebid

↔️  DISTANCE: 22 km.

🕝  TIME: 6-8 hours.

⛰️ TERRAIN: Rugged desert terrain and rocky paths.

Your adventure begins in the world-famous Petra, known for its rock-hewn city carved into the rose-red cliffs. The first stretch takes you out of Petra, descending through rugged desert terrain and rocky paths.

You’ll navigate narrow canyons, wadis, and small hills, slowly entering the quieter desert
landscape.

Gaa’ Mriebid to Wadi Al-Saif

↔️  DISTANCE: 13 km.

🕝  TIME: 4-6 hours.

⛰️ TERRAIN: Rocky slopes, and open desert stretches

This day’s hike brings you deeper into the desert, with dry riverbeds, rocky slopes, and more expansive desert stretches. The terrain is more open compared to Day 1, with vast plains and occasional canyon crossings.

Wadi Al-Saif to Wadi Gseib

↔️  DISTANCE: 14 km.

🕝  TIME: 4-6 hours.

⛰️ TERRAIN: Narrow canyons, rocky outcrops, and occasional sand dunes.

The trail gets steeper as you move towards Wadi Gseib, with challenging paths through narrow canyons, rocky outcrops, and occasional sand dunes.

 

The landscape starts to feel more rugged, and the desert views become even more dramatic.

Wadi Gseib to Wadi Al-Heimar

↔️  DISTANCE: 16 km.

🕝  TIME: 5-7 hours.

⛰️ TERRAIN: Steep ascents and vast sand dunes.

On Day 4, you’ll enter one of the most remote parts of the trail, crossing vast sand dunes and rugged rock formations.

The terrain is physically demanding, with steep ascents and long stretches of desert, but the scenery more than makes up for the effort.

 

Wildness camping in Wadi Aheimar, nestled in the dunes and surrounded by vast desert expanses. This is a great spot to enjoy a peaceful night, listening to the wind and gazing at the stars.

Wadi Aheimar to Al-Humeima

↔️  DISTANCE: 26 km.

🕝  TIME: 6-8 hours.

⛰️ TERRAIN: Narrow canyons, rocky outcrops, and occasional sand dunes.

The final day takes you across day long canyon before reaching Al-Humeima, a historical site.

The trail gradually flattens as you approach the ruins, offering sweeping desert views before entering the more cultivated landscape near Wadi Rum. Stay in a traditional Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum.

 

After five nights of wild camping, enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Bedouins in this stunning desert oasis. Relax with a hot meal, sip traditional tea, and share stories around the campfire under the starlit skyTransfer:

 

After reaching Al-Humeima, a 45-minute transfer takes you to the Wadi Rum area, where your adventure ends.

What to bring with you

While not mandatory, Please Note: Tips are not included in the price of the tour. However, if you feel that our team has provided you with exceptional service, we would greatly appreciate any tips as a gesture of your satisfaction and support.

⁠❌ Entrance fees:

Entrance fees to Petra and Wadi Rum are not included in the tour price. We highly recommend purchasing the Jordan Pass, which covers the entry to both sites and offers a convenient way to explore Jordan’s top attractions while also waiving the visa fee for most nationalities.

⁠❌ Trail snacks:

⁠Trail snacks are not included in the tour package. We recommend bringing your own preferred snacks for the hike to keep you energised along the way.
